WI VFW Foundation Mental
Health Support Fund
From the 2024-2025 Commander’s Program Book:
PSC Renee Simpson, dedicated manager of our Foundation, has taken an admirable initiative by establishing a fund within our organization. This fund’s noble objective is to provide financial assistance to individuals who may forgo mental health therapy due to their inability to afford the associated co-payments. PSC Simpson has meticulously designed an application process and form to ensure the fund’s efficient operation.
I am proud to announce that my Commander’s Project centers on kick-starting this crucial fund with immediate financial resources. By doing so, we can swiftly begin making a positive impact in the lives of those who would otherwise be unable to access vital mental health support. This endeavor embodies our commitment to community welfare and mental health advocacy.
From the Secretary/Treasurer of the WI VFW Foundation, Renee Simpson:
Never before has someone embraced an initiative as Mary Ann did when this fund was brought up over a year ago. Allowing the VFW and VFWA to assist our Service Members who are financially struggling to get the quality mental health care that they deserve. Mary Ann was so proud of this year’s Commander’s Special Project and that President Cheryl was all in as well. A living, breathing program that Service Members can use immediately.
During our July Kickoff Council of Administration meeting, we kicked off this project much like Mary Ann. While small in numbers, the attendees made a BIG impact. Thanks to Commander Ron’s challenge to the VFWA for a "silkies show” at Mid-Winter, they raised $1,500. The VFW Chief of Staff Carla made a raffle basket filled with comfort items that raised $746.
Donations should be made out to the WI VFW Foundation and earmarked for the Mental Health Support Fund.
